Travel Podcasts You Should Listen To

Updated: Dec 23, 2022

Podcasts are great for a multitude of reasons, and those focused on travel not only put me up to speed on the latest travel news, tips and destinations, but they also revealwhy travel is so important to me: the human connection and cultural exchange. When I'm not able to actively travel, these podcasts are great for experiencing a destination through another's stories. They inspire me to add new places onto my 'Future travels' list and fill me with wanderlust, excitement and hope for the future. There are a range of recommendations below, and all are informative, insightful, and interesting. All of them are available on both Spotify and Apple Podcasts with links specifically to Apple Podcasts. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Passing Through (Season 4 Coming Soon!)

This is one of my absolute favorite podcasts because it combines two of my great loves: travel and spoken word. Nneka Julia does wonders with weaving beautiful stories through her words that capture major milestones of pain, maturation, and love in her life that also revolve around her many travels. You clearly note the growth in her storytelling from her first podcast up until the most recent, which is a testament to time and its ability to foster more wisdom and finesse. This is the perfect podcast for those who love travel and poetry through the art of spoken word. I love her stories. Currently, there are 3 seasons, but a 4th is on the way, so you can catch up in the mean time!

Women Who Travel (Back in Action!)

Another amazing podcast hosted by Condè Nast Traveler editors Lale Arikoglu and Meredith Carey that covers a multitude of travel topics centered around women. It was previously inactive and in a state of transition due to Meredith's recent company change, but has recently been brought back! Overall, there are so many gems in this podcast. It will not only inspire you to travel and answer many of your travel questions, but will give you insight into the minds of some of the most awe-inspiring women around the world who are living, creating and traveling on their own terms.

Zero to Travel (Active)

This is the most recent travel podcast I've been listening to, and it doesn't disappoint! Jason Moore is an enthusiastic host who has such an amazing range of interviewees and travel topics to discuss on a weekly basis. I like that I can learn things like how to make passive income while traveling, hear about the life and travels of a travel nomad, or learn how to stay cyber secure while moving around the globe. It's definitely made it onto my regular rotation of travel podcasts.

Black Women Travel Podcast (Active)

As a black woman, this podcast really is a safe space when it comes to talking about travel and how it specifically affects black women and our experiences. Through the individual conversations Wanda has with each woman, You learn about how each of them decided (or are continuing to decide) to move through the world despite the narratives placed upon black women, globally and throughout the systemic injustices we face. This podcast is real, raw and inspiring. Wanda is a host that speaks to each of her guests as if she's known them forever, creating many instances of vulnerability and deeper conversations into why they love travel, and what they've taken from it, as black women. I love that I've heard so many stories from black women that lead such different lives. A major thing I've taken from this podcast is that I have the ability to create the life of travel that I want, on my own terms, and in the way that makes me feel most comfortable and at ease, which in of itself, is beautiful.

On She Goes (Inactive)

Although this show is currently inactive, and has been for over 2 years, I still recommend giving this a listen! It was the first travel podcast I listened to after realizing I wanted to make travel more of a constant in my adult life. It gave me true travel inspiration, and from other women of color no less! Typically you only hear of travel accounts from white men and women; while their experiences aren't invalid, they just don't have the nuance and awareness of moving through the world as a black woman. This podcast made me so EXCITED to travel and learn what I could really take from exploring cultures that are not my own. There's currently so many platforms to get your travel inspiration from, but I hold this dear to me since it provided hope in the bleakness that was 2020. I hope you enjoy it too!
